Scott Roether

Scott Roether is the Lower School Music Specialist at University School near Cleveland, Ohio. Previously, he worked as an Arts Integration Specialist and public school music teacher. Scott completed his Master’s degree in Music Education with a concentration in Orff-Schulwerk from the University of St. Thomas and is certified as an AOSA Teacher Educator in Basic Pedagogy, facilitating Level 1 Basic Pedagogy at the Cobb County Orff Course near Atlanta, GA and Kent State University near Cleveland, OH. He is proud of his involvement in the Greater Cleveland Orff Chapter, serving as Vice President and Program Chair.

Workshop Title: Let's Play it by Ear: Exploring Student-Centered Pathways to Musical Understanding

Description: Experience playful teaching processes of both traditional and primary source materials within the Orff Schulwerk while emphasizing teaching processes beyond standard notational literacy. This workshop will explore the world of child's play, creative play with instruments and other materials, and emboldening student creativity by implementing and improvising with their own ideas. Learn the importance of involving student choice and voice to increase their musical understanding and confidence.
